The Dining In and the Dining Out are occasions where ceremony, tradition and fellowship combine food, drink, and good company to enhance the morale of the unit.  It is widely believed that these events can change a "Good" unit into an "Outstanding" unit.  The Dining In became very popular during World War II with the Army Air Force stationed in England.  The Army Air Force members frequently were invited to Royal Air Force Dining Ins which were legendary for their combination of fun and formality.  Our unit hosts both a Dining In and a Dining Out.  The Dining In is limited to unit personnel and a few invited guests. Our Dining In features a "Grog Bowl" of an unsavory mixture of ingredients designed to motivate attendees to follow the rules of the Mess.  In military terms, "The Mess" is both a location and an event where military personnel gather to dine.  The Mess has certain rules of protocol, and when a member of the mess violates a rule of protocol, the President of the Mess (POM) orders the offender to partake of the Grog.  Our Dining Out includes parents, family and friends of the cadets who come to see the cadets being rewarded for a year of hard work.  There is no Grog Bowl at the Dining Out.
