The Kitty Hawk Air Society is an Honorary Society of Air Force JROTC.  The honorary is named in recognition of Kitty Hawk North Carolina, where the first flight of a powered, heavier-than-air, aircraft first flew.  This flight took place on December 17, 1903.  The Apollo High School Chapter of the Kitty Hawk Air Society is named for Colonel "Buzz" Aldrin.  Colonel Aldrin, a United States Air Force Colonel was the second human being to set foot on earth's moon when on July 21, 1969, he and Neil Armstrong touched down in their Apollo 11 Lunar Module, the Eagle.  Kitty Hawk Air Society members perform various community service activities. To be eligible for membership in our chapter of the Kitty Hawk Air Society, you must be a sophomore and obtain an overall grade point average 3.0 in all your classes.  Members are authorized to wear the Kitty Hawk Air Society Badge on their uniform.
