is one of the three major activities of our unit. Cadets are trained to navigate through forests and fields using a
map and compass to locate "Control Markers." The cadet who locates all the controls in the shortest time wins
the competition. While simple in concept, developing the orienteering skills required to shorten your course time is
very challenging. There are more field trips involved with orienteering than any other AFJROTC activity. The Orienteering
Team averages one Field Trip per month during the September - April time frame, and participates in at least one overnight
trip each school year to attend an Interscholastic National Orienteering Championship competition. Orienteering teams have
travelled as far as the US Military Academy (West Point), New York, Texas, Maryland and North Carolina.
