Over 20 cadets participate annually in the Western Kentucky Summer Leadership School (WKSLS). WKSLS is a five-day leadership school held each Summer at the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center (WHFRTC).  WHFRTC is a major Kentucky Army National Guard training base located in Greenville, KY.  Selected cadets from Apollo High School, Warren East High School and Hopkins County Central High School's AFJROTC programs attend WKSLS.  WKSLS is organized and run by the AFJROTC Instructors from those three high schools. The cadets stay in an Open Bay barracks, dine in the base Dining Facility and hone their skills in drill, marksmanship and orienteering. Each cadet gets a chance to fire an M-16 weapons simulator on a state-of-the-art simulated firing range and run the Army Obstacle Course. The cadets also participate in a three day-two night field exercise where they rappel, receive orienteering training, participate in an orienteering competition and dine on MREs  This is a physically demanding and mentally challenging leadership school, but enjoyed by all the cadets in attendance.
